JJR Solutions Tapped to Modernize Veterans Crisis Line for VA

Dayton, Ohio—Faster and more efficient help for those who call the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL) – that’s the latest challenge JJR Solutions is undertaking for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) through a new VCL Modernization Contract.

The VCL is a free phone/chat/text service that offers 24/7 confidential crisis support to Veterans and their loved ones. Since its inception in 2007, more than 6.2 million calls have been placed (as well as hundreds of thousands of chats and texts) with more than 1.1 million referrals made to VA suicide prevention coordinators.

JJR Program Manager Michael Gething explained, “Our role is all about improving VCL’s technical ability to serve our Veterans in crisis, as well as their loved ones. We’re going to do this by designing, developing, building, installing, and sustaining a modernized version of the current VCL, making it more reliable and technologically scalable while improving the user experience for callers.”

“The program will leverage our human-centered design methodology to ensure the solution is focused on the callers as well as the incredible professionals who take those calls on a daily basis,” he continued. “We’re honored to have this opportunity, and we’re excited to bring our best tools and talents to bear on a project that is so critically impactful to Veterans and their families.”

Gething leads a team of experts that includes World Wide Technology (WWT) and Vetrics Group, LLC; all will be working closely with VA technical professionals. Work will be performed at various locations nationwide through August 14, 2023, with optional tasks and option years available.

The VCL Modernization Contract was acquired through JJR’s Phase III Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) vehicle. JJR’s SBIR allows clients to experience the full benefits of JJR’s Magnify© tool, a tool that captures human-centered data to ultimately improve team, system, or organizational performance.

“This new contract is not only amazingly important for fulfilling our company purpose of improving the health and well-being of our communities, but also represents an opportunity to continue our support for VA,” shared David LaBarca, JJR Solutions Portfolio Director. “We’re so pleased to be able to add VCL to the growing list of ways we support VA and make a difference in the lives of Veterans.”
